RE StART has been created in the belief that arts based education is a meaningful tool to engage, support and inspire (at-risk) youth and young adults. With a focus on community beautification through graffiti removal and/or art installation, capacity building and educational workshops, youth will learn skills that will assist in developing both their artistic and employment potential.

StART may provide funding of up to $20,000 for initiatives designed to meet the following objectives.

Engage (at-risk) youth and young adults, and/or youth arrested for tagging or illegal graffiti activities and diverted through the Court System.
Provide consistent programming for a minimum of a 4-month time period (up to 8 months).
Include a combination of some or all of the following tasks and activities:

graffiti removal and/or mural installation/repair

community engagement and development

health and safety workshops related to street art

mentorship and other related skill development activities

The youth’s strengths and needs are targeted to create an individual program with the intention of benefits to both the youth and their community.

Priority will be given to proposals that:

Include tangible skill development and the ability to track progress and development through the program
Provide mentorship opportunities for youth and young adults
Have past experience working with (at-risk) youth and young adults in a creative educational environment
Are located in previously underserved areas

This program is open to referrals from the court system.  StART encourages partnerships with the Toronto Police Service.
