Topic:
How to get male actors more involved in community theatre
on January 25, 2011 - 12:54pm
I always find it difficult to get good male actors to play parts in community theatre. When ever I do a posting for a project, I get a lot of responses from females - I would say out of 30 females auditioning, there are 3 men.
I write my own plays as a part of Roar in the Woods theatre group and , to be true to the story, ideas I have - I need to include male parts, of course.
Maybe it would be better to limit the parts I write to just females, but I think this would hurt my creativity in telling a story. Has anyone out there have any ideas on how to get male actors more involve?

Thanks for the referral.
Unfortunately, this is not a new problem. Community theatre memberships tend to skew more towards women than men, so it's much harder to find men for shows. We have done some consultations on this area for our members; ultimately, the goal is to make it as meaningful a volunteer experience as possible.
