ART on the Go is looking for artists to run a performance and art installation project at an ecological restoration site in York Region. The project will also involve several smaller art installations throughout the Region of York during spring, summer and fall 2012. Our first event will take place on Saturday March 31st at 8:30pm, and will be to celebrate and raise awareness around Earth Hour.
How you can help:
We are looking for performance artists, musicians, visual artists (painters, sculptures, photographers, and videographers/film producers and directors), as well as poets and spoken word artists to capture the essence of what "Earth Hour" means to them, with the specific question in mind: "How can they, through their artistic medium, be an effective agent of change and environmental sustainability in York Region?
The event is to draw attention to both the arts scene in York Region, which is highly under-represented, and to the need for collective, collaborative partnerships between artists, conservation groups and agencies, climate scientists, and environmental organizations and community groups. The process of moving "art" from the private to the public sphere, through community arts practice workshops and cultivating a strong sense of creative possibilities and effective solutions to environmental crises and degradation, will happen through this project, which will be a longer-term process. The process of moving artwork into public sphere, and through activism and art as community engagement vehicle, will help to foster communication, discourse and discussion around issues of environmental degradation, pollution, and allow for the exploration of creative and innovative solutions to these challenges.
