This Workshop will focus entirely on getting to know WordPress! Limit: 8 people Please bring your own wireless enabled laptop computer (it is highly encouraged that you bring a laptop you're familiar with and that has up-to-date software, including your Internet browser). Extended Registration Deadline: June 13, 2012 This workshop is designed to teach artists and arts writers with a moderate level of digital literacy how to set up and manage their own WordPress.com site. You'll learn how to build your site, how to create pages and sub-pages, how to create blog posts and how to manage your digital assets (images, video, documents, etc.). You will also learn about managing comments and discussion, enabling social media and using WordPress widgets. Participants will need: - An email account that can be accessed during the workshop - Some content for an 'About' page (such as your biography) - Some content for an introductory blog post (such as a welcome message) - A couple of digital images you own the rights to (such as a portrait for your About page and photos of your work) Instructor: Sarah Mulholland is the Media & Communications Officer in OCAD University-Marketing Communications office. Her experience includes marketing and strategic communications, media relations, content management for web and six years of experience in community management and social media. Sarah has served on the Board of Governors for OCAD University, and committees ranging in focus from emergency preparedness, crisis communications, sustainability and accessibility planning. Payment may be made through PayPal with your bank account, credit card, or PayPal balance. Please note that class size is limited, so register early. In the case of insufficient enrollment, Akimbo reserves the right to cancel a workshop five days prior to the start date. If you must withdraw from a course or workshop, Akimbo must be notified three business days before the workshop begins in order to receive a refund, less a cancellation fee of $20. Akimbo is not able to provide make-up workshops or substitutions. Registration is open to anyone working in the cultural sector that wants to learn more about blogging and WordPress in their professional careers.
