Canadian Stage

About:

Founded in 1987, Canadian Stage is one of Canada’s leading not-for-profit contemporary theatre companies. Led by Artistic & General Director Matthew Jocelyn, Canadian Stage produces innovative theatre work from Canada and around the world.

Our company prides itself on presenting trans-disciplinary work and work in translation that pushes the boundaries of form and style. We reinforce the presence of Canadian art and artists in an international context through work that mirrors the cultural diversity of Toronto. Canadian Stage has a long-standing commitment to public education and enhancement programs. We are also committed to investing in theatre and the arts by nurturing and developing theatre professionals, while producing thought-provoking work and quality entertainment.

Thoughts about art and community:

Canadian Stage is dedicated to offering both new and existing audience members opportunities to explore and engage with our work. Through a series of year-round programs and special events, we aim to give young people, families, community groups and emerging artists a chance to enhance their experience at the theatre, and to develop their own artistic vision and creativity.

Through special youth nights at the theatre, public workshops, discounted ticket initiatives, education and leadership programs and more, we strive to ensure that as many people as possible have a chance to connect with our work and with others who share an interest in and passion for theatre across the diverse communities of Toronto.
