DanceWorks
About:
DanceWorks - celebrating past and present and embracing future choreographic voices
DanceWorks began as a collective of independent dance artists in 1977 and has grown to become Toronto's leading presenter of independent dance. Strong in the belief that dance has the power to illuminate, engage and transform all who participate, DanceWorks offers seasons of eclectic, exhilarating choreography programmed to intrigue, challenge and enthral. DanceWorks adds to your theatrical experience with danceflics, Carol's Dance Notes and post-performance conversations with artists. DanceWorks is the administrator of the CanDance Network and Dance Ontario Association.
Thoughts about art and community:
" In 2010/11, DanceWorks brings the work of ten gifted choreographers to six Mainstage programs. They illuminate life's essentials, embodying themes of romance and longing, the nature of identity, and our relationship to family, home and habitat. Skilled and celebrated dancers realize the work. Composers, designers, writers and directors extend the multi-dimensional artistry onstage. Coming from many different places - geographically and artistically - each Mainstage artist contributes a particular vision, shaped by desire and influenced by personal history. They dare us to embrace the honesty and daring of live performance. "
