Joy Apparel

About:

Joy Apparel is a socially conscious T-shirt company founded in Toronto Ontario in December of 2006 that is helping to promote peace and equality on a global scale. Joy Apparel has a database of thousands of hand drawn portraits of people from all over the world. You begin by selecting a face of someone you don’t know, followed by a style, size and colour of T-shirt. Every face comes printed over the heart and when you wear your Joy T-shirt, you are encouraged to think about that person and how your everyday actions can affect others and the world we live in. Each T-shirt comes with a little bio card telling you, the persons name, where they are from in the world and their passion in life. After you purchase a shirt you are then given a special unique ID code which allows you to upload your own photo via our website to have your face drawn by hand and worn on the hearts of others. The Joy T-shirt project was created to cultivate compassion and humanity while helping to promote peace and equality on a global scale. Wearing a Joy T-shirt is about loving your neighbor and taking care of each other, because in someway or another, we are all connected.

Thoughts about art and community:

I believe the diversity of culture in the city inspires innovative ideas, captivating work and interesting conversations that makes us distinctly unique from any other major city in the world. I also believe that the Toronto art community has a lot of respect and support from our fellow citizens. Art and culture is what makes a city vibrant and I strongly believe that in this regard Toronto is alive and doing well. The possibilities are limitless.
