Kaleidoscope Kids of Toronto

About:

Kaleidoscope Kids of Toronto is a registered charity created to provide programming for youth between the ages of 4 and 12 living in East Toronto. We currently operate three camps annually (Summer, Winter Holiday and March Break), as well as limited arts-based after school programming, with plans to expand to more programs and clubs over the next few years. We draw kids from all over East York, Riverdale and Leslieville, but also the Beach, Thorncliffe Park, Downtown and even Scarborough and North York.
Membership is broken down into three age groups: Tyke (ages 4-5), Junior (6-8) and Senior (9-12). Teens also participate in our leadership training program and as volunteers. Eventually, we plan to launch programs for Teens 13 and up.
Our philosophy is to provide innovative and entertaining programs that are accessible to all. Half of our children come from middle-class homes that pay an affordable regular fee, while the other half come from public housing, shelters and homes where the economic situation has changed so that the family cannot afford to send their kids to recreational programs. Some of our kids have developmental disabilities, such as autism. By being accessible to all, we help break down the economic barriers that exist between families and bring all of these kids together.

Thoughts about art and community:

Considering that our mandate is to bring professional artists together with low and middle-income kids, we are very big on the arts in the community.
