About:
I am a passionate visual artist, art educator and creativity facilitator, and also a professional environmental conservation and urban sustainability specialist.I am committed to educating and informing people about the intricacies and complexities of the environmental destruction and decay present in the world today, and to helping people and communities re-vision/imagine and create artwork and community art and environmental art projects to create a healthier, happier, more sane and environmentally sustainable future for all.
Through an exploration of contemporary issues and potential solutions, with respect to the natural environment, my work actively engages viewers about complex environmental issues and their implication in the most horrible forms of destruction and environmental decay. My work draws upon community art practice, popular education and populist art forms, as well as impressionism, expressionism, Dadaism, and post-modernism, to communicate the “hope” that lies within the heart of Art, and perhaps is a playful and more “sane” solution to the world’s environmental destruction.
Through the process of connecting with my soul, and with the goodness/divine spark that lies within me and each person, my art seeks to reframe and present an alternative reality – one of hope and action; to renegotiate the importance of visual art as a means to express important solutions and ideas about the loss of our common humanity and the forced replacement of our ecological and social capital, with a sub-human, hopeless capitalist vision.
Thus my work seeks to illuminate the issues clearly, and invoke hope in an otherwise complacent audience. The ideas within each work of art also try and expand the viewers’ sense of the possible by redefining the “impossible”; and sense of themselves in relation to the natural world, themselves, and their own communities. The work seeks to plant seeds of light, inspiration, love and hope that can grow into ideas, possibilities and actions about how we can best live, breathe, play and reshape our lives to be in alignment with the natural world, sometimes in the most subtle ways.
