Opportunity | Riyaaz: Community Building through Practising Form
Practitioners of Indian dance forms need time and space to come together and build networks and support systems for their work as artists.
Riyaaz: Community Building through Practising Form is a project enabled by Hub14's Community Chest programme and curated by Odissi dancer Supriya Nayak. This project is rooted in the belief that the Indian dance community in the GTA is actively bringing their art to audiences through performance and teaching in different neighbourhoods.
Practitioners of Indian dance forms need time and space to come together and build networks and support systems for their work as artists. We will host monthly meetings from December 2017-May 2018 for dancers at Hub14 in Toronto's Queen West neighbourhood to share skills and curiosities about their practice, and discuss the prospects of dancing in the GTA in the present moment. Our meetings will include four curated workshops focused on process and form, led by artists Neeraja Ramani (Bharatanatyam), Deepti Gupta (Kathak), Brandy Leary (Chhau/Kalari) and Harikishan S Nair (Kuchipudi/Bharatanatyam/Mohiniyattam/Kathakali).
