The Art of Public Health - Official Call for Proposals
We are pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for the 3rd Annual Dalla Lana School of Public Health Student Led Conference, “The Art of Public Health.” The conference will take place on Friday October 1st, 2010, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This initiative is being organized by Masters of Public Health students attending the University of Toronto. The “Art of Public Health” will feature an outstanding keynote address by Dr. Sarah Flicker, and informative sessions aimed at engaging our participants by providing an opportunity for dialogue and debate pertaining to arts in public health research, knowledge translation, program planning, evaluation and empowerment.
Presentation Types
Workshops: The conference will include two sessions, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon, each comprised of 45
workshops The presentations will be about 3045
minutes, with discussion following. Workshops are intended to
be interactive, focusing on specific skills and practical learning, related to a project(s) or topic(s).
Exhibits: A ‘Project Gallery’ will be held throughout the day, displaying projects associated with this topic. This gallery is intended to present a variety of works,including: art pieces, posters, videos, performances and other projects.
Breakout sessions: These sessions will be approximately 2030
minutes,providing an opportunity for small group discussions on critical issues within the area of arts and public health.
Mandate and Audience
The “Art of Public Health” is for experts and nonexperts
alike; providing a setting to learn from one another, network, as well as advocate for, and critically engage with, the topic of art and public health. The conference intends to create a forum for students, academics, practitioners, artists, researchers and community members who are interested in discussing the use of arts in public health, and the practical skills involved in this area. We aim to emphasize the value of creative expression, creativity and new ways to explore public health – whether that is through dance, theatre, fine arts, music, film, photography or any other medium. Interested students, community organizations, practitioners, researchers and artists
are all encouraged to apply!

4. Abstract/Brief Description
Please limit your abstract to 300 words maximum. Provide a description of proposed presentation, intended learning objectives, and how the proposed presentation is related to/supportive of the conference theme(s), objectives and mandate. This does not necessarily need to be in written formvideo submission is also welcome (ie: YouTube).
5. Name and Contact Information
Please include full name, email(s), phone number(s), and address of the
participant(s). Please also indicate affiliations for each presenter (graduate student, community agency, university faculty etc.) as well as the name of school or organization.
6. Please specify any additional information (ie: what AV equipment you will require, estimated length of performance, estimated space requirements for exhibit etc.)
