Being Proactive Conference : Feb 16 & 17, 2012 - Supporting Children and Youth Mental Health and Wellness in Schools and Communities
Being Proactive: Supporting Children and Youth Mental Health and Wellness in Schools and Communities. This two day conference will explore the impact of violence, poverty/racism, loss/bereavement, abandonment and neglect, street/gang life, incarceration, and institutional and community apathy on the mental health of children and youth.
Keynotes presenters, workshop facilitators and participants will engage in inter-professional dialogue on the depth and breadth of these challenges, with an emphasis on how educators, mental health professionals, front-line workers, children and youth professionals from the various social service sectors, and individuals working in the criminal justice system can take a proactive approach to supporting children and youth mental health and wellness in schools and communities.
Held on Thursday Feb 16 (evening) and Friday, Feb 17th (all day), this event is a collaboration of the Department of Justice Canada (DOJ), Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS), the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), and York Centre for Education and Community (YCEC).
Keynote presenters include Dr. Chris Spence, Dr. Kwame McKenzie, Sarah M. Yanosy (LCSN), Landa Harrison (LPC, NCC), Dr. Horace Levy, and Dr. Scot Wortley. Facilitator for the event is Greg Frankston (a.k.a Ritallin).
