Second Base Youth Shelter: Art and Culture Programmer
Involvement in the arts benefits youth in areas of math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Art and Culture engagement can also be a important factor in improving motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork. Creative activities can help homeless and marginalized youth connect to community in their immediate surroundings as well as in a more global manner.
Job Description:
Art and Culture programmer duties include but not limited to:
• Support meaningful engagement of marginalized youth, who have experienced and/or are experiencing exclusion through active participation in quality arts opportunities.
• Coordinate: Visual Arts: Drawing Fundamentals, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Mixed Media, Mask Making, T-shirt Design, Graffiti workshops.
• Coordinate Performance Arts workshops such as: Spoken Word, Playwriting and Performance, Hip Hop lessons.
• Plan field trip activities to art and culture events.
• Coordinate art supplies for art studio.
• Maintain drop in and art studio before, during and after art and culture activities.
• Maintain schedule of events.
• Liaise with guest workshop providers.
Education and Training Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Portfolio or samples of artistic skills
First Aid and CPR
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Painting, drawing, scuplting
• Art and culture program administration, program evaluation
• Coaching theory and practice
• Events coordination and planning
• Computer skills
• Effective written communications skills including the ability to prepare reports
