CULTURE DAYS ANIMATOR/COORDINATOR
Contract: start date March 15 to mid-October 2012
Pay Rate: $22.85 - $24.25/hour
Culture Days is a national volunteer-driven, grassroots movement led by arts and culture-aficionados and the arts and culture sectors in collaboration with municipalities, public funding agencies, provincial governments and the private sector. Now entering its third year, Culture Days will take place September 28 - 30, 2012 and will offer free hands-on and behind the scenes cultural activities promoted to the public in communities throughout Ontario and the rest of Canada.

The Culture Days Animator/Coordinator will be a resource for Ontario artists and arts organizations who are considering participating and/or coordinating activities for the 2012 Culture Days event. The individual will report to Ontario Arts Council’s Director of Communications and to the Ontario Culture Days Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
Communications in order to promote Culture Days to OAC clients and the wider cultural community in collaboration with OAC’s communications department and Ontario Culture Days Manager; this would include activities such as cold calling, providing information sessions in person and by teleconference, interviewing participants and writing blog posts, managing Ontario Culture Days social media channels and acting as a spokesperson for Culture Days to the media;
Registration and Participation Support, to include tracking and analyzing registration data and offering guidance and assistance to participants using the registration system, as well as providing detailed information and advice on how to create Culture Days activities
Network Support and Volunteer Management, to include community relationship building and developing strategies for communities interested in Culture Days, as well as volunteer coordination, which includes the recruitment of volunteers to work with community organizers, providing volunteer training sessions and acting as a resource for the volunteers;
Marketing and Promotions Assistance, by managing the print-production process for advertisements and marketing materials, as well as managing the distribution of materials
Qualifications:
Relevant experience working in arts and culture with a broad understanding of the cultural sector in Ontario.
Recent experience planning, producing and executing a successful arts or culture event and direct knowledge of the elements that make a public event successful.
Ability to identify needs and develop strategies that will work for artists, cultural groups and arts organizations both amateur and professional.
Excellent public speaking skills in English and confidence in making presentations.
Proven ability to work independently as well as experience working with others in a collaborative and supportive manner in order to achieve goals of the project.
Strong writing skills in English; fluency in verbal and written French will be considered an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel.
Familiarity and comfort with social media and other web 2.0 communications strategies.
Volunteer coordination experience will be considered an asset.
Knowledge of public art, arts education and outreach practices will be considered an asset.
Must be willing and able to travel, as required, to communities in Ontario
Valid driver’s license
Able to work flexible hours depending on the needs of the project with increasing hours in the summer leading up to Culture Days.
