POSITION TITLE:  Program Facilitator – Victory! TV
REPORTS TO: Program Manager – Youth Capacity Building
DETAILS: Part-Time / Short-Term Contract (4 months)
COMPENSATION: $1200 per month (upon satisfactory completion of deliverables)

DURATION: September 15, 2012 – January 15, 2013
 
Organization & Program Description
For Youth Initiative (FYI) is a non-profit, charitable organization operated by-youth, for-youth. FYI aims to encourage civic engagement and increase access to educational, recreational, economical and cultural opportunities for marginalized and at risk youth. Civic engagement,
critical analysis, leadership, youth empowerment, skill building and community building are encouraged and incorporated in all of FYI’s work.
 
The overall focus of Youth Capacity Building programming is to encourage social transformation within the lives of young people and in the broader community. Through the use of arts, gender-specific activities, and social – recreational activities, our programs focus on character
and confidence building, fostering creative and critical thinking skills, developing life skills, strengthening physical and mental development, increasing access for youth to other community services, and an overall increasing of the life chances for youth.
 
Position Summary
 
For Youth Initiative (FYI) is seeking a dynamic, media-savvy individual to facilitate our Victory! TV project. This four month project will build on the successes of the youth-led Victory! Magazine program. Twelve youth will participate in a twelve week program which will engage
them in the process of developing and implementing a youth-led, online TV Channel. Victory! TV will act as a platform for the voices of young people in and around the areas of York –South Weston to have critical discussions and take action on issues of importance to them.
 
Main Deliverables:
 
• Development of a project work plan
• Development of a twelve week curriculum that ensures youth participants are taught thefollowing skills:
• Script-writing, story-boarding, interviewing, camera basics, film editing, pitch development, communication, and design
• Facilitation and implementation of evening workshops, twice a week, at FYI’s 1652Keele Street programming site
• Completion of all administrative procedures related to the project, including reporting and documentation
• Ensure the production of five news clips that are uploaded online in a timely manner
 
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience in digital media arts, communication, and/or design
• Experience working with youth in a structured program setting
• Technical expertise in camera basics, video-editing, lighting
• Experience in workshop facilitation and leading group discussions
• Must be comfortable working closely with marginalized young people and be able to critically analyze the issues affecting youth in under-served communities
• Must value and understand the importance of mentorship and be able to demonstrate this by leading through example
• Must be available to work evening hours as required for youth programming
• Knowledge of the communities served by FYI would be an asset
