POSITION TITLE: Program Manager – Youth Settlement Services
PROGRAM: Settlement Program
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
DETAILS: Full-Time (35 hours per week)
7.5 Month Contract
Start Date: August 13, 2012
SALARY: $50,000 per annum (pro-rated)
CLOSING DATE: July 18, 2012 @ 5:00 pm
 
Organization & Program Description:
For Youth Initiative (FYI) is a non-profit, charitable organization operated by-youth, for-youth. FYI aims to encourage civic engagement and increase access to educational, recreational, economical and cultural opportunities for marginalized and at risk youth. Civic engagement, critical analysis, leadership, youth empowerment, skill building, and community building are encouraged and incorporated into all areas of work at FYI.
 
The Settlement Program provides youth settlement related services and programs including reception and orientation, translation and interpretation, referral to community resources, settlement counseling, general information, and employment-related services for newcomer youth.
 
Position Summary:
This position oversees FYI’s Settlement Services Program. The Manager of Settlement Services is responsible for settlement service delivery and managing the frontline operations of the program.
 
The position is responsible for the day to day supervision of the youth settlement services team, program reporting, program evaluation, and assisting with funding and grant proposals.
 
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
• Supports the Executive Director in developing and designing services and programs based on FYI’s outcome based programming framework
• Ensures that all services and programming activities are aligned with FYI’s professional practice manual
• Audits staff & client files; ensures that they are up-to-date and include all important details
• Tracks client statistics and records for monthly funder reporting purposes
• Creates a feedback system that clients have access to in order to improve and adapt FYI services
• Provides quarterly program evaluations to the Executive Director
• Monitors and evaluates staff & volunteer’s work performance
• Follows up with staff and/or clients regarding referrals and services provided
• Supports settlement staff by assisting in client services when required
• Provides comprehensive case assessments for clients with more intensive needs
• Screens, hires and trains potential volunteers
• Oversees the planning and co-ordination of workshops with settlement staff to ensure it meets clients’ needs
• Develops strategies for improving program quality
• Consults with other staff about future proposal ideas
• Writes, edits, and revises proposals
• Maps outreach strategy to ensure outreach is effective
• Records schedule of work week, duties accomplished, and other necessary documentation
• Ensures that daily administrative duties that are required of staff including scheduling and meeting deadlines for various reports
• Other administrative duties as required
 
Required Qualifications:
• The minimum level of education preferred is a community college diploma in human services and social studies related education
• Minimum of one year experience in managing/coordinating a settlement or newcomer related program
• Proven experience/ability to work well with culturally diverse clients & staff
• Experience working within an anti-oppressive and anti-racist framework and proven commitment to social justice issues
• Has an understanding of the youth led social service sector and of the challenges facing
youth from ethnically diverse communities
• Experience working in an outcomes-based program model
• Experience developing and writing funding proposals
• Direct experience with staff supervision, client intake assessment, case management and referrals
• Strong reporting and documentation skills and oral & written communication skills in English
• Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating newcomer programs and services
• Creative programming ideas and experience with bringing diverse groups of youth together
• Ability to work with confidential and vulnerable information
• Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to manage program budgets and materials, and develop program resources
• Able to work with minimal supervision
• Strong administrative, organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• A leader who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative and organized
• A successful clearance of criminal record verification will be required when necessary for the position
• Ability to adhere to and enforce the guidelines, policies and values of FYI
