THEATRE PRODUCTION: PROPS & SETS PROGRAM

Downsview Park, 40 Carl Hall Road, Studio 6, Toronto (corner of Keele and Sheppard)
Opportunity to work with Downsview Park Arts Alliance on Theatre Production Project at Downsview Park

1) Qualifications:

Youth will be selected who:

• Live in the Jane-Finch area (defined as: Steeles Ave to the North; Hwy 400 to West;
Sentinel to the East; Sheppard to the South), preferably;
• Are between 16-24 years of age
• Are interested in theatre design and production
• Want to develop a side/main career in the arts and culture sector
• Are willing to work with coordinator/theatre artists for 7 hours a week for 16 weeks (between February,
2011-June, 2011) Hours will include work primarily on Saturdays

2) The Work

• Working on 2-3 plays with theatre companies in the Downsview Park Arts Alliance
under the supervision of the programme coordinator and assistant coordinator
• Learning about design of sets, props and costumes for theatre companies
• Learning about building sets and props for theatre productions
• Learning about health and safety issues related to sets and props production
• Taking workshops on design and other theatre techniques
• Attending the productions worked on

3) Location Primary Location – Parc Downsview Park primarily, 40 Carl Hall road, Studio 6,
Toronto (Keele and Sheppard area) ; Secondary Locations: Fairview Library Theatre (Don
Mills and Sheppard); Alumnae Theatre, (Adelaide & Berkeley)

4) Dates: February 26 to June 11, 2011, for a total of 16 sessions of 7 hours each, primarily on
Saturdays with the occasional scheduled Sunday.

5) Payment: A total honorarium of $960 over the16 weeks will be paid to each successful
candidate. Youth will be paid by cheque every two weeks in installments.
