Inter-Action: Canada’s New Multiculturalism Grants and Contributions Program

July 20, 2010

The Inter-Action Events Program awards grants of up to $15,000 to small community-based events that foster intercultural or interfaith understanding, civic memory and pride, or respect for democratic values.

Examples of eligible events include those that celebrate Black History Month or Asian Heritage Month; musical events that bridge communities; and sporting activities that involve members of various ethnic, cultural or religious communities.

The program does not have fixed call-for-proposals, but accepts applications year-round.  It suggests that applicants plan for 18 weeks of review prior to decisions being made.

Eligible recipients include not-for-profit organizations, associations and unincorporated groups; municipalities and townships with pop'ns less than 10,000; and Aboriginal organizations.

Eligible events will need to demonstrate the involvement of more than one single cultural, religious, or ethnic community; be open to and intended for the general public; and not have a total cash cost exceeding $50,000.

The program's guidelines and general application form are attached to this email.

All inquiries should be directed to the Ontario Regional Office of Citizenship and Immigration Canada at ON-Multi@cic.gc.ca or 1-888-776-8584.
