Mural Unveiling
Mural Routes is pleased to announce the unveiling of a new mural installed on the walls of the Youthlink building at 747 Warden Avenue, Toronto. The beautiful mural is painted on panels and forms a giant jigsaw puzzle; installed on the walls as if the puzzle is still in the process of being completed.
The concept of the mural was developed by artist Elaine Teguibon as part of an independent study project for the Leadership Training in Mural Making program 2011. Elaine writes in her proposal "The Jigsaw puzzzle represents the importance of creating the right links between people, communities and orbanizations ....A puzzle is a challenge, but there is a solution."
Councillor Michelle Berardinetti directed a portion of her Ward 35 City of Toronto Beautiful Streets budget towards the project.
Youth artists Elaine Teguibon, Tara Dorey and Raymond Cho worked under the direction of Program Director Rob Matejka and with support of several summer students, to transfer the design onto the puzzle pieces, which they created out of MDO Plywood Panels. The design incorporates the values of Youthlink and the faces of several of the youth participants.
The unveiling will take place outside the Youthlink building at 747 Warden Avenue at 4 pm on Thursday August 16.
