Presenters include: Juliet Palmer, Martin van de Ven, Wendy Bartley, Adam Scime, Chris Wilson, Julia Churchill, Liz Rucker, Eric Schwndt, and the Parkdale Singers

 

Schedule

 

12:30 to 1:00 – Arrivals, refreshments (be ready to start promptly at 1:00)

 

1:00 to 1:20 – Intro. by Jumblies & Raucous Caucus members (Ruth Howard, David Anderson &  Anne Barber)

1:20 to 1:40 – Juliet Palmer – presentation on her interdisciplinary/musical projects

2:00 to 3:30 – Composer’s panel: Wende Bartley, Chris Wilson, Martin van de Ven & other music creator’s present, followed by discussion.

3:30 to 3:45 – Break

3:45 to 5:00 – Choice of workshops:

1.     Earth Sounding Walk in Cedar Ridge grounds & ravine, with Wende Bartley.

2.     Explorations of vocal worlds & music for Jumblies Scarborough Winter’s Tale, with Juliet Palmer.

3.     Experimental responses to Jumblies’ Evolving Gallery installation with Martin van de Ven and Chris Wilson.

5:00 to 5:30 – Responses from workshops.

5:30 to 7:00 – Dinner & Informal Conversations

7:00 to 9:00 – Performance Showcase

(with brief artist explanations, questions & answers):

 -       Presentations from afternoon workshops;

-       Eric Schwindt & the Parkdale Singers: performing 4 songs from It Happened In My Apartment (lyrics by Arts4All Participants & Liz Rucker) and Exit Pursued by A Bear (from Jumblies 2010, Like An Old Tale);

-       Train Song Ballad, by Scarborough Tamil Seniors, Julia Churchill & Beth Helmers & I Love to Dance, verbatim text by Mabelle senior, Jean Field, set to music and sung by Julia Churchill;

-       From their Voices, workshop performance of a commissioned piece by Adam Scime, scored for Solo Singer (Julia Churchill), Cello (Sonya Nanos), Community Voices and Tape;

-       Audio recording of Being Margolia, commissioned and performed by the Toronto Children’s Chorus in June 2010, score by Martin van de Ven, libretto by Ruth Howard;

-       Screening of Winter Comes & Spring Is Here, by Sean Frey, with original musical soundtrack by Martin van de Ven;

-       and other surprises.

 

N.B. For the Soundwalk, bring appropriate outdoor clothes, including umbrellas in case of rain.
