A Warm Welcome From Your Network Coordinator

January 27, 2010

For artists working with communities in Toronto, the idea of a network is nothing new. Community-engaged artists in Toronto have long been building their own networks – not only as a matter of best practice, but as a means of survival. The potential for a city-wide Neighbourhood Arts Network has existed for years, lurking in the web of complex relationships that make up cultural life in Toronto.

The Neighbourhood Arts Network is building on the strengths of connections that already exist. By making some of these pre-existing connections more visible, we are working to uncover the bigger picture of community arts in our city. By building an understanding of the relationships, geography and expertise that exists, we can identify gaps and begin to bridge those gaps.

This website is designed to augment the networking and information gathering that our members do on a daily basis. As you browse around the site, you will discover a treasure trove of community-engaged arts information. In addition to our publicly-accessible news and information, members will enjoy access to our members-only discussion forum, toolkits, funding guide, and collaboration finder.

Our greatest asset as a network is the knowledge, expertise and connections that our members bring. This is a participatory network: in order to grow a Neighbourhood Arts Network that is truly responsive to current needs, members must take an active role. With the benefits of membership comes the responsibility to contribute by sharing information and experience and building new connections. After you sign up, spend a few minutes filling out your profile, describing your projects and uploading photos. It is your input that will truly bring the network to life.

The Neighbourhood Arts Network is a wonderful, vibrant organization showcasing the diversity and vitality of community-engaged arts in our city. If you haven’t already done so, sign up now! Membership is absolutely free for 2010, and I strongly encourage all interested individuals, groups and organizations to take advantage of this offer.

On behalf of everyone who has worked so hard to make this network a reality, I am thrilled to welcome you to the Neighbourhood Arts Network!

Warmly,

Skye Louis

Network Coordinator
