BIG BAM BOOM: AFCY Youth Arts Festival

by Arts for Children and Youth

About:

BIG BAM BOOM is the annual signature event of AFCY, and showcases the talents of over 500 young people (ages 12-24 approx.) from Toronto’s priority neighborhoods. The youth are current or past participants of AFCY’s arts-educational programs.

Conceived, managed and performed by young people themselves, under the guidance of AFCY staff, the AFCY Youth Advisory Council, and a professional Concert Operations Manager, BIG BAM BOOM is a unique and powerful affirmation of the city’s under-resourced communities.

The festival transcends all boundaries by playing in a popular downtown venue (at Harbourfront Centre in 2009 and 2010) and offering public access to all events over its two-day run.

BIG BAM BOOM includes a stage show on the Saturday afternoon of the event, featuring music, dance, singing, dub-poetry and a guest appearance by a celebrated professional performer.

The festival also includes an Art Exhibition that is mounted all day on the Saturday and Sunday of the event, which includes: Graffiti murals, sculpture, large-scale murals, photography, video & music installations, ceramics and masks, interactive art making stations and more.
