community in clay
About:
This project asks a community to come together to explore what masks they show to the world. Those from other cultures wear what they think is expected of them. Those living lives outside the accepted norm hide behind masks of indifference or wear masks of rage or pain.
This series of workshops involves participants deciding how they will use clay to display the message they wish to convey to the world about themselves. This may take the form of a grouping of individual's masks, it may be a 'puzzle mosaic' or a clay quilt. The process is determined by the participants. It is documented by those participants through journal writings and picture taking by anyone at any point in the process. The hope is that by exploring common issues through art, all involved will develop a greater sense of themselves as strong and positive members of a wider community.
