Scripted for Schools
About:
Scripted For Schools is a special initiative of Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC). The aim of this project is to speak to the relevancy of the arts, increase public/school access to and presence of Canadian plays, and demonstrate how plays/scripts/dramatic role play can be used as a learning device. Theatre and other forms of art have a great impact on youth and can be used to develop literacy skills, communication skills and allow students to explore topics about social issues in a non-traditional way.
This video includes testimonials on the impact of theatre, scripts and dramatic art among youth.
Special thanks to Jim Giles (Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario), Hugh Neilson (Young People's Theatre), Kristin Rodgerson (Theatre Direct), Andrew Lamb (Roseneath Theatre), Thomas Morgan Jones, the staff of Young People's Theatre, and all the kids who shared their enthusiasm for theatre.
A follow-up to this video was a three-part workshop facilitated by Bob Barton, Jim Giles and David S. Craig. The attendees (playwrights) participated in activities on writing for youth audiences, drama activities, and education marketing.
