Youth Leadership Development & Community Project

About:

In our Leader-in-Training(LIT) program youth aged 14 and up learn and practice effective leadership skills while also choosing a major in an area of the arts. Arts Major choices include dance video choreography, music arranging, mixed media visual arts, musical theatre, set design, and more. Throughout the 7-week program LITs participate in activities that focus on developing individual and group skills, personal growth as a leader, and effective interaction as a team.
The Program Includes:
hands on workshops including: verbal and non-verbal communication, group game facilitation, team building, problem-solving, program planning, public speaking, inclusion vs. bullying, leadership styles etc.
The development of a community project
opportunities to take on a leadership role in camp activities;
participation in an Arts Major
guest presentations from working arts professionals
day trips to venues such as theatres and television stations to
exploration of arts-related career options.
recreational activities
an overnight trip to a residential summer camp
eligibility to receive volunteer hours for high school

Our Counsellor- in- Training (CIT) program for 15 year olds focuses on building skill in working with children in an arts learning context as well as job skills. Workshops for this group include: facilitation, group management, professionalism, resume writing, interview skills. CITs gain hands-on experience through placement in a group of children as well as in developing a community program with the LITs.

This program includes:
