Shadowland Theatre will engage with the local community in celebrating the natural and human histories around Alexmuir Park. Through Indigenous teachings and nature walks, we will share cultural and environmental understanding to promote deeper connections to the landscape and each other.
Aboriginal Eco-guide, Alan Colley, will take participants on explorations of the park’s natural wildlife uncovering its role in our ecosystem and discovering hidden riches. Shadowland artists will lead community workshops in story creation, stilt-walking, visual arts, costume making and large-scale puppetry, drawing inspiration from the many cultures that reflect the diverse local community.
Two, day-long workshops, June 25 and July 2, will engage community members in an imaginative rendering of their local landscape through walks and story exchange. A one-week residency, July 8 to 14, from 11am to 8pm each day, will invite everyone, from children to seniors, to get involved, learning new skills, making art and developing the performance.
Together we will express the “spirit” of the park in a culminating parade at 3pm, Saturday July 15, that travels throughout the park in a celebratory procession of colour, movement and community.
